10/25 Forecast: All eyes on Sandy

Hurricane Sandy is in the Bahamas right now, and is really dominating the minds of a lot of people. By the time I type the forecast for the first day of November in a week’s time, there is a possibility that Sandy and a low pressure system might merge and cause lots of problems for lots of folk up and down the east coast. Not only will there be rain, wind and high surf, but Sandy might produce snow as it will help to pour cold air out of Canada during its trek.

It might make landfall anywhere from Boston to Virginia Beach. The closer to us it makes said landfall, the more effect we will see from it. Right now, the computers are putting it from the Delmarva Peninsula up toward New Jersey by early Tuesday. If it hits farther south, we may end up seeing a lot of snow by the time Wednesday is over. The good news is the warm temperatures now will mean lots of the early snow showers will melt when they hit the ground, which is good news.

Our beautiful weather will come to an end after tomorrow regardless of what Sandy does. That low pressure up north has a cold front, too, and that will move through over the weekend, and that will be our big temperature drop.

Tonight, we will have no problems. skies will stay partly cloudy with lows around 46. A little fog isn’t at all out of the question toward morning.

Friday will begin with the fog, then said fog will be gone by mid-morning. Once that happens, sunny skies will prevail for a little while. The cold front that’s near Memphis right now will bring us more clouds as the day progresses. Most of the rain is behind the front, so it looks like the day will be dry on Friday. Look for highs around 77. Friday night will be cloudy for the most part, with a chance of a few rain showers, especially after midnight. Look for lows to drop to around 51.

Saturday looks like a cloudy day for the most part, and a few rain showers will be part of the mix at times during the day as well. I’m certain the entire day will not be a wash out, though, as this front doesn’t have much moisture to play with. It will be a cooler day, with Saturday highs around 63.

Sunday looks about the same, a mainly cloudy day with a chance of a couple rain showers. There is the possibility of a few peeks of sun from time to time, but by then all the warmth will be long gone. We’ll be lucky to hit 50 degrees at any point in the day on Sunday.

Monday through Wednesday are up in the air at this point. We could have rain or snow or something in between. As I mentioned earlier, it all depends on where Sandy makes landfall. If it’s toward the south, we will get a good bit of snow, possibly 4 inches or more. If it’s north, we may not see anything. I’ll be watching things over the next few days  and keep everyone informed about Sandy here on the Tri-Cities Weather Blog. Halloween is coming, and that’s what everyone is looking to at this point.

Thanks for checking here for the forecast! Have a great Friday!
