March 25, 2021 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

It’s been a wet, rainy day across our area, with anticipation of evening and overnight thunderstorms. The good news is, the rain and storms today may actually be a good thing when it comes to tonight. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through the weekend!

I’ve been talking about the chance of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and hail for tonight. I believe the lack of sunshine will help us, because when the sun is out it creates more instability, which fuels thunderstorms. Hopefully, that’s good news for us tonight, but don’t let your guard down. We could still see some nasty weather tonight and early Friday morning, with two rounds of storms possible.

I haven’t mentioned much of a chance of tornadoes on air, but as it is with any severe thunderstorm, a tornado could spin up, too. If our National Weather Service office (which is located in Morristown), issues any tornado warnings, I’ll be on the air live to cover it. You can hear me on many radio frequencies overnight: 91.5 FM, 103.3 FM, 96.3 FM, 100.7 FM, 97.3 FM, 100.3 FM, 1230 AM, 104.1 FM, should cover most of them! Here’s the outlook to cover the forecast through Sunday:

  • Tonight-Rain and thunderstorms. Some severe storms are possible. Windy conditions regardless of storms. Low 54.
  • Friday-A few morning rain showers, but becoming partly cloudy by afternoon. High 71.
  • Friday night-Partly cloudy. Low 42.
  • Saturday-Increasing clouds, with afternoon rain showers possible. Highs near 70.
  • Sunday-Rain showers likely. High 65.

For tonight, please plan where you’re going to go in the event not only of a tornado warning, but a severe thunderstorm warning as well. Even with severe thunderstorm warnings, you don’t want to be near windows or connected to power or plumbing, regardless of not having to go to your safe place. If we have a tornado warning, make sure to go to the lowest floor of the building you’re in and put as many walls between you and the outside as possible. Bring shoes and a helmet if available. If in a car or mobile home, get out of those to a sturdy structure. That will keep you safe if tornadoes become imminent with these storms.

Today has been pretty rough with storms, as tornado warnings have been up this afternoon from Mississippi across the South to South Carolina. A warm front there is helping fire those storms off, and that front is headed up here tonight. Make sure to turn on the weather alerts before you go to bed tonight so you’ll get a wake up call if you need to go to your safe place!

After that, we get a break tomorrow and for Saturday morning, as dry air returns. Rain will be back in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, though. I don’t anticipate severe weather at this time looking into the weekend.

I’ll be watching the weather all night long, and will be on air, this blog, and on Twitter (look to the right of this page), for all the latest. Stay safe tonight!
