March 23, 2021 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

From time to time, people have arrived with some interesting weather ideas. Today reminded me of one because I knew much of the day would be cloudy. Some days are like that, but don’t produce much rain. But yet, I’m always asked on a cloudy day when it’s going to rain. The good news is, sometimes clouds can be around and note bring rain! That happened today, but there’s a lot of rain coming later this week. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through the start of the weekend!

Off to our west, low pressure and an associated cold front are making their way through the Plains. Over the coming days, that system will bring some rain to the area. There’s a small chance of that rain tomorrow, but much more is likely on Thursday. Here’s the outlook for a quick peek:

  • Tonight-Mostly cloudy. Lows near 50.
  • Wednesday-Partly to mostly cloudy, with a small chance of rain. High 72.
  • Wednesday night-Mostly cloudy. Low 52.
  • Thursday-Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible. High 72.
  • Friday-Mostly cloudy with a few morning rain showers. Highs near 70.
  • Saturday-Partly to mostly cloudy, a few afternoon showers are possible. High 74.

It’s not an outbreak by any means, but there have been a few damaging wind reports in Louisiana and Mississippi, on the far southern end of the system that’s headed our way. That’s a big difference from the tornadoes from down that way and in Alabama for sure! Eyes are on that area for possible severe weather mostly on Thursday.

Between now and then, our weather should be tolerable, with a lot of clouds around and only a small chance of rain tomorrow. Our temperatures are about 10 degrees above average the rest of the week, plus a couple for the weekend. Thursday does feature better chances of rain for us, with some thunderstorms. We’re on level 1 of the 5 tier scale for severe weather from the Storm Prediction Center, so some damage from storms isn’t out of the question. Should that happen, hail and damaging winds are the likely threats Thursday afternoon and evening.

After that, we’ll have a small chance of rain Friday early on, then a dry day after that. A new cold front arrives on Saturday, bringing afternoon showers and storms in on Saturday and mostly on Sunday.

I’ll keep an eye on any severe weather chances for Thursday, and I’ll have an update here on that tomorrow. Have a great Wednesday!
