January 15, 2018

The National Weather Service has put up a Winter Weather Advisory for tomorrow after 10 AM, indicating that snow is on its way. A cold front will pass through before much of that arrives, bringing cold weather back as well. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Friday!

Scattered rain showers are entering Eastern Kentucky right now, with snow showers behind that. Despite the sunshine we’ve seen this afternoon, clouds will increase tonight and snow is likely tomorrow. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Increasing clouds. Low 24.
  • Tuesday-Mostly cloudy with snow showers developing by afternoon. High 35.
  • Tuesday night-Cloudy and cold with some snow showers. Low 15.
  • Wednesday-Becoming partly cloudy. Cold, with highs around 23.
  • Thursday-Partly cloudy, getting warmer. High 38.
  • Friday-Mostly sunny, high 45.

Below average temperatures highlight most of the week’s weather, but the big news is the snow starting tomorrow. I’m not expecting very heavy snow at any point, but there might be enough from time to time to make travel interesting. Keep that in mind as you’re going out, especially tomorrow afternoon.

The colder air arrives tomorrow night, and chances of snow continue through early Wednesday morning. After that, we’ll clear out a bit. Wednesday should be the coldest day of the week, as we only get temperatures up to the low 20’s.

By Thursday, though, high pressure returns, allowing us to start warming back up. It will still be a chilly day on Thursday for sure, but Friday returns us back to our average high in the mid 40’s with a nice, sunny day.

At first glance, the weekend looks like it might be a tale of two halves. Saturday looks good while Sunday doesn’t necessarily. Timing might change on that, so we’ll leave it out there. I’ll have a little better look at it tomorrow. Have a great Tuesday!
