January 3, 2018 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

January 3, 2018

Cold weather remains, as we’ve had the warmest day of this week today. We’re back into the 20’s and single digits for highs and lows the next three days, but Sunday looks a lot better! Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast through the weekend!

We’ve broken two straight low temperature records, and that string will stop tonight. Clouds will move in, keeping temperatures from dropping so much. The cold front that’s bringing said clouds will be the leading edge of the new shot of arctic air that we’ll have to deal with through Saturday. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Increasing clouds. Low 15.
  • Thursday-Cloudy, windy and cold, with some flurries. High 24.
  • Thursday night-Partly cloudy and cold. Low 7.
  • Friday-Partly to mostly sunny. High 24.
  • Saturday-Mostly sunny. High 25.
  • Sunday-Partly cloudy. Highs near 40.

A quick moving cold front gets through here tonight, and flurries from it may linger after tonight all the way through Thursday and maybe into tomorrow night. There won’t be much accumulation with this, which is good news!

The sun returns Friday, but the cold will only make it look nice outside. From another early January low in the single digits, Thursday’s high will only be around 24.

Saturday will be sunny and cold as well, but things start changing west of here. A slower moving cold front will be getting its act together Saturday, and by Sunday we’ll begin to feel the effects. Ahead of that front, warmer air from the south will start streaming in. That means we have a good shot at seeing 40 degrees for the first time in 2018 on Sunday. And more than a few hours above freezing!

After that, the rain and snow from the front arrive. Sunday night will see some light snow, then that mixes with and changes to rain during the day on Monday. Highs on the first day of the week might end up in the mid 40’s!

Hang in there…this next cold snap will be met with closer to average temperatures starting Sunday. That’s something to look forward to!
