September 28, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

September 28, 2017

From 90 degrees yesterday to the mid 80’s today, temperatures will continue to drop to more fall-like conditions, especially tomorrow night through the weekend. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Monday!

There is enough moisture in the air to squeeze out a few light rain showers this afternoon, especially near the mountains in Carter, Johnson, and Unicoi  Counties. If you’re under one of those showers, enjoy it. Computer models indicate that we’re going to see dry weather perhaps all the way through the first week of October. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Partly cloudy, aside from a few evening showers. Low 55.
  • Friday-Partly cloudy. High 77.
  • Friday night-Partly cloudy and cooler. Low 48.
  • Saturday-Mostly sunny. High 74.
  • Sunday-Mostly sunny. High 75.
  • Monday-Mostly sunny. High 77.

One cold front is gone, into the Carolinas this afternoon. A second one is well northwest of us, but will zip through here by tomorrow evening. That may bring a few extra clouds and a few sprinkles, but we’ll have way too dry of an atmosphere to see any widespread rain from that front.

A high pressure block will form over the eastern part of the country into the weekend, keeping storms from moving our way. So while we begin fall temperatures tomorrow, it looks like rain won’t be present for a while. In fact, it could be October 6 before we see any kind of widespread rain across our area, which is a week from Saturday!

In case you wondered, now Tropical Storm Maria and Hurricane Lee still exist in the Atlantic. Maria drifted around off the East Coast for a few days, and the cold front that went through today is in the process of bouncing that out to sea. Lee is already there, that storm hasn’t threatened land for a while now.

I’ll have another forecast for the weekend tomorrow afternoon. Have a great Friday!
