August 4, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

August 4, 2017

Before we begin, a note that the NWS Morristown radar is not functioning. They expect repairs to be finished this afternoon, hopefully!

Rain is about to arrive shortly after 4 PM in a lot of the Tri-Cities, with a few thunderstorms. The chance of rain continues this evening with another line of showers and storms before we dry out briefly. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Tuesday!

That rain has already cooled a lot of folks off into the upper 60’s this afternoon, specifically in Southwest Virginia near Wise, where round one of rain has already moved through. A second round is coming, with all of us cooling off early next week. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Cloudy with evening showers and thunderstorms. Low 61.
  • Saturday-Clouds decreasing, afternoon sunshine. High 82.
  • Saturday night-Partly cloudy and cooler. low 55.
  • Sunday-Mostly sunny, a small chance of an afternoon thunderstorm. High 84.
  • Monday-Rain and storms likely. High 78.
  • Tuesday-Partly to mostly cloudy, with scattered showers and storms. Highs near 80.

Today’s rain is thanks to a cold front that is still on the other end of Tennessee, stretching through Kentucky and also southwest into Arkansas. That front moves through tonight, and will bring two rounds of showers and storms, one late this afternoon, and another this evening.

Behind the front, rain-free and cooler air arrive. So look for a dry day Saturday and a mostly dry day on Sunday despite a warm front moving through. A new cold front brings rain chances up Sunday night, and Monday looks like a cloudy, cool day with off-and-on rain showers throughout.

It looks like a good weekend to get out and enjoy the outdoors, just make sure you get indoors if you hear thunder on Sunday. Thanks for checking here for the forecast, have a great weekend!
