August 3, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

August 3, 2017

It’s a sunny afternoon, with a few puffy cumulus clouds around. Rain isn’t developing just yet, as we move toward 5 PM as this blog is written. A cold front is on the way, bringing clouds that do have rain with them starting tomorrow afternoon. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Monday!

Temperatures are a touch above average this time of year, as we’re at 87 degrees next to the airport in Blountville today. It’s also a bit warmer than expected! Cooler spots are in the normal places, up in the mountains were some might not hit 80 today. We’ll have seasonal temperatures in the coming days, just where we ought to be for early August. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Partly cloudy. Low 63.
  • Friday-Increasing clouds, with scattered showers and storms late. High 83.
  • Friday night-Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Lows near 60.
  • Saturday-A few morning showers, then partly cloudy. High 83.
  • Sunday-Partly to mostly sunny, maybe a stray shower or storm late. High 85.
  • Monday-Rain and thunderstorms likely. High 78.

We’re talking about two cold fronts in the next four days, something we normally get in winter! This time, the cold front that moves through on Friday night won’t get through the South on Saturday, and will move back up through our area as a warm front Sunday.

From there, a cold front will move in from the west, and that will bring the big chance of rain and storms in the forecast with well below average temperatures on Monday thanks to heavy clouds and the rain and thunderstorms.

I think most of tomorrow will be dry, with rain moving in during the afternoon hours, possible late afternoon. Rain chances pick up Friday night and then drop again behind the front. As the warm front moves through, we might get some rain as well, but that stronger cold front Monday will clearly be the main event of the next few days.

More updates are to come as we look toward Monday, as I should have another forecast tomorrow afternoon (it may be short, though!) and then I’ll set things up Sunday evening as we head into the new week. Have a great Friday!
