June 16, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

June 16, 2017

Vacation time is near! I’m headed for a week off after today, so I’ll get you through Wednesday with this Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast. Here we go!

It’s the middle of the afternoon as this blog is being written, and most of the rain and storms today are focused in the mountains east of I-81. There is also a storm or two in Tazewell County, Virginia, near Richlands. More storms should pop-up during the course of the rest of the afternoon.

Where there’s been rain, temperatures are cooler, in the 70’s in spots. A lot of clouds were around early today, so Tri-Cities locations are just getting to the 80’s at this point. We get some good rain chances for all of us late this weekend and a cooler forecast for part of next week as well. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Partly cloudy with some evening showers or storms. Low 65.
  • Saturday-Partly cloudy, with a few showers or storms in the mountains for the most part. High 87.
  • Saturday night-A few evening showers, becoming partly cloudy. Low 65.
  • Sunday-Partly to mostly cloudy, with scattered afternoon showers and storms. High 87.
  • Monday-Rain and thunderstorms likely, some strong to severe. High 80.
  • Tuesday-Partly to mostly sunny with a couple rain showers early. High 84.
  • Wednesday-Mostly sunny. High 86.

We have a cold front that will move through our area late this weekend, which will be the focus of our weather late Sunday and most of Monday. Between now and then we’ll see the usual heat of the day showers and storms popping up for the rest of this afternoon and for most of Saturday.

More organized showers and storms arrive late Sunday through Monday thanks to a cold front that will move through here early next week. So expect storms to start Sunday night. Strong to severe storms are possible until the cold front finally does get through here Monday afternoon.

Behind that front, we’ll get a little cooler, but the bigger change is less humidity. This time of year, cold fronts that do make it through here change the water content of the air (something big if you’re into drag racing, which is in Bristol this weekend!) more than the temperature of it. Monday will be the coolest day, where we may be lucky to hit 80. After that, we’ll be back into the 80’s for highs Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thanks for checking here for the forecast! I’m off on vacation from this evening through next Saturday, so keep tuned to Top Gun Radio (870 AM, 100.7 FM, 96.3 FM) and Love FM (1090 and 1230 AM, 97.3 FM, 100.3 FM and 103.3 FM) for updates as our on-air folks on each station will bring any warnings to you should they come up. Have a great week, everyone!
