May 12, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

May 12, 2017

It’s an early forecast Friday headed into the weekend! We’ll have scattered showers and storms over the next 24 hours, but after that, dry weather is ahead. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Tuesday!

Showers and thunderstorms are moving through early this afternoon, so be aware that lightning and heavy rain may be issues, along with gusty winds. There will be showers and storms off and on tonight as well, which is where we start in the forecast outlook:

  • Tonight-Cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Low 57.
  • Saturday-Morning rain showers, becoming partly cloudy. Highs near 70.
  • Saturday night-Partly cloudy. Low 47.
  • Sunday-Mostly sunny. High 78.
  • Monday-Mostly sunny. High 82.
  • Tuesday-Mostly sunny. High 87.

A cold front moves through today, and then low pressure moves by us just to the south later tonight. The combination of those two things will bring the off-and-on scattered showers and storms the rest of today through tonight.

We may see some stray rain showers Saturday morning, but the weekend gets better as it goes along. We’ll start seeing some sunshine during the afternoon, then full days of sunshine are on the way for Mother’s Day and the first two days of next week.

I’m still waiting to hear about the Sullivan South vs. Elizabethton district championship game tonight. I’ve advised the coaching staff at South that storms are likely this evening, and they’ll decide whether to play tonight later this afternoon. As of now, the game is scheduled for tonight at 6 PM. If they postpone the game, they’ll play it tomorrow afternoon at 3.

Either way, I’ll be on the air with the broadcast on Top Gun Radio (870 AM, 100.7 FM, or search WPWT on TuneIn app) just a few minutes before the broadcast, either at 5:50 tonight or 2:50 tomorrow afternoon. Make sure to tune in. Go Rebels!
