May 10, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

May 10, 2017

I thought today might be a hectic day at the radio station, and it has been crazy! I do have a new weather forecast ready, so I’ll throw out the outlook through Mother’s Day on today’s Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast!

Outside right now, temperatures are in the low 80’s in much of East Tennessee. Folks up in the higher elevations are still in the 70’s, but either way, it’s a nice day to be outdoors. I’m about to be out in it in a little while, with tournament baseball on the way. That said, here is the most recent forecast through Sunday:

  • Tonight-Partly cloudy and mostly dry, but there could be a stray rain shower. Low 60.
  • Thursday-Dry early, with partly cloudy conditions. Showers and storms possible late. High 84.
  • Thursday night-Partly to mostly cloudy, scattered storms possible. Low near 60.
  • Friday-Cloudy, with rain showers and storms likely, especially in the afternoon/evening. High 75.
  • Saturday-Clouds and rain early, partly cloudy by afternoon. Highs near 70.
  • Sunday-Mostly sunny and windy, but not as humid. High 75.

A stationary front will change to a cold front and back to a warm front tomorrow (showing that it’s not very strong in the first place) through tomorrow. That will bring the occasional wave of showers and storms, like what we saw in Southwest Virginia yesterday.

As of now, though, rain is scarce around the area, while sunshine is not. That’s good news! It does appear that we’ll likely stay dry for at least the next 24 hours for the most part, although rain or a thunderstorm cannot be completely ruled out.

A cold front moves through Friday, and as it does it will increase chances of showers and storms, mainly late in the day and overnight. Some stray showers will likely linger into early Saturday morning, but we should start clearing out later on, leading to a beautiful, sunny Mother’s Day!

Tune in for Sullivan South baseball tonight in district tournament action. The Rebels play Elizabethton with a spot in next week’s regional semifinal on the line. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm, and we’ll go on the air at about 4:45 with lineups and pre-game show coverage from J. Fred Johnson Stadium in Kingsport. Tune in on 870 AM, 100.7 FM, online by searching for WPWT on TuneIn, or better still, bring a radio to the game! Go Rebels!
