April 24, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

April 24, 2017

Despite the fact that it turned into a cloudy afternoon, the rain stayed away just in time for the NASCAR race to get in. What’s next? A little rain is possible tonight through early in the morning, but after that dry weather returns! Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Friday!

Dry weather is something we need after this past weekend. Sunday in itself broke a nearly 50 year old rainfall record for that date in recorded history. There was flooding around the track and in lots of other places, including water rescues that happened in Hawkins County, while folks in Scott County and others had many roads closed, with rivers and streams cresting tonight and then dropping below flood stage during dry weather.

Here’s the outlook for the coming days, including our next rain chances:

  • Tonight-Cloudy with a few NC mountain rain showers. Lows near 50.
  • Tuesday-Becoming partly cloudy after early showers east of the Tri-Cities. High 73.
  • Tuesday night-Partly cloudy. Low 51.
  • Wednesday-Mostly sunny. High 84.
  • Thursday-Partly cloudy, with showers and storms possible late. High 83.
  • Friday-Decreasing clouds, after a couple morning rain showers. High 82.

The low pressure that caused all the rain this weekend is near the South Carolina coast right now. It will move up to the North Carolina coast tomorrow, and that’s why western North Carolina might see rainfall through tomorrow morning. The farther up the coast that low goes, the less chance of rain we’ll all see from it.

Most of us will see dry weather tomorrow and a beautiful, warm day is coming for Wednesday. Much of Thursday will be dry before a cold front approaches late in the day. As of now, it looks like the better chances of rain will be Thursday night, but I can’t rule out rain late in the afternoon, or early Friday.

After the front passes through, we’ll see rain coming to an end once again during the day on Friday. So it looks good that most of the daytime hours this week will be dry. Definitely good news!

I’ll have a new forecast tomorrow afternoon, and it’ll include my first look at the weekend! Have a great Tuesday!
