March 14, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

March 14, 2017

There’s snow flying around this afternoon here in the Tri-Cities, but it’s nothing near what’s happening not all that far away! We’ll see the light snow and flurries taper off by tomorrow afternoon, but then the cold air makes the news. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Sunday!

The cold spot right now around the area, at least as I’m typing this, is Tazewell, Virginia, at 23 degrees. The warm spot around our area is Knoxville at 35. That’s it! Winter has returned, but not with much snowfall, and we haven’t seen all season what they’re getting in Pennsylvania and New York right now! More on that in a moment, here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Cloudy and cold, flurries and windy. Low 18.
  • Wednesday-Cloudy with flurries to start, partly cloudy and windy late. High 35.
  • Wednesday night-Partly cloudy and cold again. Low 18.
  • Thursday-Mostly sunny. High 44.
  • Friday-Increasing clouds, a few scattered afternoon rain showers. High 54.
  • Saturday-Rain likely early, otherwise mostly cloudy. High 57.
  • Sunday-Decreasing clouds and cooler. High 48.

I’ve seen reports today of a foot of snow in the far northeastern tip of West Virginia, northern New Jersey, and close to a foot and a half in parts of New York and Connecticut. It seems like winter just flipped a switch, especially up that way!

Flurries and light snow showers will be all we see here, and that should end by early afternoon tomorrow. The sky will try to clear some during the day, but we will be lucky to be above freezing for too long tomorrow.

Thursday looks like a dry day and a little warmer, but still way below average. We’ll get closer to our average temperature (around 58 degrees) on Friday as a cold front approaches. That will bring rain as soon as Friday afternoon, but the best bet for rain showers will be Friday night and early Saturday.

As that front gets out of here, the second half of the weekend will be cool and dry. We might even see a little sunshine late on Sunday!

Thanks for checking here for the forecast! Temperature permitting, I’ll be at Sullivan South for their game against Happy Valley on Thursday afternoon. All the action can be heard on 870 AM, 100.7 FM, and the new 96.3 FM starting a little before 5 PM on Thursday. I hope you’ll be tuned in!
