February 8, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

February 8, 2017

It was a Wednesday that started with rain, saw some sunshine, then started to cloud over again late. Transitions in weather will continue in the next couple days as a cold front moves through. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through the weekend!

Temperatures warmed up nicely, but not as far as I expected. We hit 61 degrees today over at the airport (which is our next door neighbor now!), nine degrees below my forecast yesterday. Still, it’s warmer than average, which is the point. We’ll stay in that situation for the latter half of the forecast, but a cold front drops us to near normal for February tomorrow. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Rain and thunderstorms this evening, followed by light snow showers overnight. Low 35.
  • Thursday-Cloudy, windy and cold, with snow showers. High 44, dropping through the 30’s in the afternoon.
  • Thursday night-Mostly  cloudy. Low 18.
  • Friday-Decreasing clouds. High 51.
  • Saturday-Partly cloudy, with rain moving in after dark. Highs near 60.
  • Sunday-Partly to mostly cloudy, with a few rain showers. High 68.

A cold front moves through tonight, as low pressure will track right over us and through Virginia. Just before that, we’ll have showers and thunderstorms. Some could be strong, possibly severe, as there is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch just to our west until 1 AM.

After the front, our temperatures plummet. We’ll see our high for Thursday in the morning, and we’ll be in the 30’s for most of the afternoon hours. From there, tomorrow night will bottom out in the upper teens.

Two dry days follow, but rain will start to make its return Saturday night, with scattered showers possible for Sunday as well.

We hope you’ve been able to listen to Sharathon on WHCB! We’re online (at the link provided to the right) and on 91.5 FM if you’re living in the Tri-Cities! Two more days remain for tomorrow and Friday, so tune in!
