January 3, 2017 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

January 3, 2017

Happy New Year! Things have been reasonably warm and rainy weather wise here recently, but colder weather and some snow are on the way later this week. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast (from near the airport!) for tonight through the weekend!

It took us a while, and a ton of work, but the radio station studios have finally been moved! We are now in Blountville on Highway 75, near Northeast State and the Tri-Cities Airport. There are still lots of things to be worked out (the studios and the weather office being two of them), but everything is ready to go! Here’s the first outlook for me for 2017!

  • Tonight-Cloudy, with a few scattered showers. Low 44.
  • Wednesday-Cloudy and rainy early, becoming partly cloudy late. Highs early near 50.
  • Wednesday night-Increasing clouds, flurries possible. Low 25.
  • Thursday-Mostly cloudy, a few rain showers, may mix with snow. High 38.
  • Friday-Cloudy, scattered snow showers. High 33.
  • Saturday-A few morning flurries, becoming partly cloudy late. High 28.
  • Sunday-Partly cloudy to mostly sunny. High 29.

A cold front moves through tonight, and eventually we’ll see the sky clear for a little while tomorrow. A new system comes through starting tomorrow night, and that could bring us a rain-to-snow change over Thursday, with snow showers Thursday night and Friday.

That could continue through early Saturday, before we clear out for the rest of the weekend. Temperatures likely won’t get to freezing this weekend.

As for the snow situation, the computers are all over the board. I’m expecting maybe an inch of snow out of this through Saturday morning, with locally higher amounts in the mountains. I’ll keep an eye on the forecast models in the coming days, so that might change. It all depends on how cold we are when the precipitation starts on Wednesday night. More warmth will equal less snow, and vice versa.

I’ll have updates in the coming days, now that the weather computer is up and running!
