December 9, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

December 9, 2016

It didn’t get as cold as advertised this morning, which is a good thing! However, today has just hit the freezing mark, the coldest temperatures we’ve had in a while!  Tonight will be the coldest night of the season before we start warming up. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Tuesday!

The sky cleared up nicely today, which  will help us get into “really cold” territory tonight. In the mountains, you’re already there, with temperatures in the low to mid 20’s as of around 4 PM. East Tennessee is stuck in the low to mid 30’s, and that’s as good as it gets today. Warmer weather returns as we get close to 40 tomorrow. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Mostly clear and cold. Low 17.
  • Saturday-Mostly sunny. Highs near 40.
  • Saturday night-Partly cloudy. Low 19.
  • Sunday-Partly to mostly cloudy, rain moves in during the evening. High 48.
  • Monday-Cloudy with rain likely. High 56.
  • Tuesday-Partly to mostly cloudy, a small chance of rain. High 54.

It’s not the Polar Vortex, but merely a piece of it that’s causing all this cold weather. After all, it’s winter, so things like this should be happening this time of year! That said, my old adage remains. It never gets too hot or too cold for too long around here.

That said, we’ll have dry weather through most of Sunday. Clouds will move in during the day ahead of a cold front, but we’ll see rain start during the evening hours. After that, some heavy rain is possible on Monday before we get a short break of dry conditions on Tuesday.

Thanks for looking here for the forecast! Bundle up and have a wonderful weekend. I have important games of both football kinds tomorrow, back-to-back…the Army-Navy game and the MLS Cup Final! The best rivalry in sports and a chance for me to have two sports championships in six weeks with the Seattle Sounders. Here’s hoping it’s a wonderful weekend!
