December 8, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

December 8, 2016

Thankfully, temperatures didn’t drop all that much this afternoon. However, now that the sun has set for the day, the cold weather will commence. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Monday!

Before the setting of the sun today, we did get back into the mid 40’s briefly today after cooling into the upper 30’s this morning. Folks in the mountains were in the 30’s or colder all day, and around Knoxville they saw the mid 40’s for a time today as well. That’s going to be the warmest weather we’ll see until Sunday. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Partly  cloudy, some flurries in the mountains. Low 18.
  • Friday-Partly cloudy and cold. High 32.
  • Friday night-Partly cloudy to mostly clear, coldest air of the season so far. Low 16.
  • Saturday-Partly cloudy. High 39.
  • Sunday-Partly to mostly cloudy. High 48. Rain moves in overnight.
  • Monday-Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. High 56.

A cold front just moved through here, and the wind shift from the west to the northwest is what’s bringing all the cold air to us. In the Southwest Virginia mountains, a few snow flurries might be possible tonight. Otherwise, expect cloudy skies with a few stars peeking out from behind them here and there tonight if you’re brave enough to be out looking for them!

Tomorrow will see freezing temperatures for only a little while, as we’ll top out right at the 32 degree mark. Most of the day will likely be spent in the 20’s. Tomorrow night will be quite cold again, just a bit colder than tonight.

After that, temperatures will warm up this weekend to near 40 on Saturday, then in the upper 40’s Sunday. Clouds will increase ahead of a cold front Sunday afternoon, but the rain looks to hold off for most of us until Sunday night.

That cold front moves through here Tuesday, and should bring another shot of colder air in here, at least colder than Monday’s high of 56. Another cold front may be on its heels for late Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks for checking here for the forecast! I’ll have another one hopefully around this time (or sooner) tomorrow. Have a great Friday!
