October 21, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

October 21, 2016

The cold front has passed, and we’re having a chilly afternoon as a result! Our high temperature for the day was in the upper 60’s, at just after midnight. It’s been getting colder ever since, and that’s what we’re going to see for the next day or so, before we warm up later this weekend. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Tuesday!

Those temperatures tell the story today. In Western North Carolina, 50 is as warm as it’s gotten today. Some folks in Southwest Virginia are still in the 40’s just before 4 PM, while the Tri-Cities sits in the mid 50’s. Temperatures are going down, not up, for the rest of the afternoon. That will set us up for a chilly start to the weekend. Here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Cloudy with a few sprinkles, maybe mountain flurries. Lows near 40.
  • Saturday-Cloudy early, windy and cold. Morning sprinkles, but the sun comes out late. High 55.
  • Saturday night-Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Chilly, with lows around 34.
  • Sunday-Partly to mostly sunny. High 67.
  • Monday-Mostly sunny. High 67.
  • Tuesday-Mostly sunny. High 67.

When I refer to a cold front, I’m basically talking about the front of the advancing cold air. When cold air moves south, we can get days like this where the high temperature happened at midnight and it’s colder in the afternoon. It’s a couple degrees warmer at this point in the afternoon than I expected, which is definitely not a bad thing.

Clouds are hanging around behind the front, and they may spit out some sprinkles tonight through early tomorrow. That may be flurries in the mountains. After that, the sky will clear starting Saturday afternoon, in advance of high pressure and sunny days for the most part through Tuesday.

A cold front is going to move through on Monday, but it will be weak, not featuring much other than a few extra clouds during the afternoon.

If you’re headed out to football tonight or tomorrow, make sure you bundle up. It will be cold! Whether you go or not, be sure to have a great weekend!
