September 20, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

September 20, 2016

After some pretty dense morning fog, we’ve had a nice, sunny day today. Temperatures were a little warmer than expected, though. That trend will be reflected in the forecast for the next few days, where rain will be a rarity. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through the weekend!

Around the area, temperatures at about 3:30pm ranged from around 70 in the North Carolina mountains in a couple spots to close to 80 in Southwest Virginia. We were in the mid-80’s in the Tri-Cities at that point, with similar readings toward Knoxville. Sunshine is a big deal in the forecast, so here’s the outlook:

  • Tonight-Partly cloudy, possibly dense fog early in the morning. Low 58.
  • Wednesday-Mostly sunny. High 86.
  • Wednesday night-Partly cloudy. Lows near 60.
  • Thursday-Mostly sunny. Maybe a stray shower or thunderstorm east of the Tri-Cities. High 86.
  • Friday-Mostly sunny. High 87.
  • Saturday-Partly to mostly sunny, with a small chance of rain. High 87.
  • Sunday-Mostly Sunny. High 84.

In the next week, we’ll have a couple cold fronts attempt to bring rain to our area. One will come close to us tomorrow, but it is very weak and shouldn’t survive into Southwest Virginia. We might have a few extra clouds thanks to that late tomorrow.

There is a low pressure system with an old front to our east. There is a chance that a couple stray showers may spin off of that toward folks mostly east of I-81 on Thursday. Most of us should stay dry, with a decent amount of clouds as well.

The second cold front likely arrives Saturday. It will also be weak, and not have much moisture involved with it. So other than a couple sprinkles, we should be mostly dry on Saturday and for much of the weekend. As for temperatures, we should be in the mid to upper 80’s until the cold front passes on Saturday, and that will make Sunday a little cooler.

Almanac info for the Tri-Cities follows. Have a great evening!
