August 28, 2016

A few storms were around for a while today, but for most it was a beautiful sunny day! From Boone, North Carolina, to Bristol, Virginia, it was a good day to be outdoors, if you picked the right times to do so! Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Friday!

First, a shout out to Appalachian State’s field hockey team and the Bristol Pirates baseball team. I attended both games during a wonderful afternoon and evening, and despite two on-the-field losses, I enjoyed every minute! The Pirates end play tomorrow night, so if you’re near Bristol, get out there and go. As for App State, they’re back home in Boone on September 17 and 18.

That said, the week’s weather as we head into early September will be quite a bit above our average for this year, at least 8 degrees above that at least once if not twice. A cold front might move through, but we’ll see how that goes. It’s still summer, so it might not get out of here! With all of THAT said, here’s the outlook for this week:

Tonight-Partly cloudy, low 64. Maybe some early morning fog in spots.

Monday-Mostly sunny and hot, with a slight chance of rain in the afternoon. High 92.

Monday night-A small chance of evening rain, otherwise partly cloudy. Low 65.

Tuesday-Mostly sunny with a pop-up afternoon thunderstorm possible. Highs near 90.

Wednesday-Partly to mostly sunny, with a few showers and storms possible. High 88.

Thursday-Partly to mostly sunny, a couple showers and storms in spots. High 87.

Friday-Mostly sunny, with a couple pop-up storms in the afternoon, but mainly dry. High 85.

A cold front that’s in North Dakota now will move our way this week, and finally get through here either late Wednesday or early Thursday. Due to the overnight timing, our chances of rain may not be all that spectacular all week long. If the front was moving through during the afternoon, we’d have better rain chances.

That said, it’s going to be a typical summer weather week. We’ll have temperatures close to 90 early in the week, with cooler afternoon highs once we hit September late in the week. Chances of rain are small, but are a bit better on Wednesday and Thursday thanks to the proximity of that cold front.

So keep all those hot weather ideas in mind in terms of staying cool. By the time we celebrate the next new month to start October, we’ll definitely be celebrating cooler weather. Have a great week!
