August 26, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

August 26, 2016

It’s a busy day in the weather office, but there is always time for a forecast! It just won’t be a very long one. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for this weekend!

We’re having hot temperatures across the area today, with a stationary front just north of us. By the time that front wobbles down our way, it will weaken into non-existence. That leaves us with hot weather for quite a while, maybe even the rest of the month! Here’s how things look through Monday:

Tonight-Partly cloudy, maybe a couple showers or storms this evening. Low 68.

Saturday-Mostly sunny and hot, with a couple pop-up afternoon showers and storms possible. High 94.

Sunday-Mostly sunny, with a small chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. High 93.

Monday-Mostly sunny, a couple afternoon showers and storms are possible. High 93.

High pressure is blocking anything from getting to us from a cold front perspective, which is a typical thing around here in summer. So, while it always seems a few days prior to the event that a cold front is coming through, a lot of the time it won’t make it into Southwest Virginia before it either dies out or retreats back north as a warm front.

So that’s what we’re going to see this weekend, and that means a lot of heat for us. We’ll be in the low 90’s by the end of every afternoon, with a chance of showers and storms each afternoon as well. If that front gets too close to us, we might see more showers and storms develop. That is a good possibility, especially early next week.

I’ll have more on next week’s forecast on Sunday evening. If you’re headed to the Appalachian Fair tonight or tomorrow, be SURE to get into the air conditioned buildings (Commercial Building #1) for cool air and water! Heat exhaustion and heat stroke could be issues, so get plenty of water in your system, or wait and go until the sun sets.

Thanks for checking here for the forecast, have a great weekend!
