August 20, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

August 19, 2016

Rain, rain, rain. That’s what we’ve seen today, with lots of clouds. Honestly, we could use more days like this. It’s just bad timing because racing is supposed to happen at Bristol tonight and tomorrow night! We’ll see scattered showers off and on the next couple days, which could cause delays. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight all the way through Wednesday!

Temperatures are cool for this time of year, five to ten degrees below average thanks to all the clouds and rain today. Temperatures normally top out around here in the mid 80’s, so it might be a few days before we see a normal temperature day for our area again. That’s refreshing! Here’s the outlook:

Tonight-Cloudy, with some scattered showers. Low 68. Chance of racing the full 300 laps: 75%. Chance of delays: 50%.

Saturday-Partly to mostly cloudy again, with some scattered showers. Highs should top out near 80.

Saturday night-Cloudy with scattered showers, lows around 68. Chance of racing the full 500 laps: 70%. Chance of delays: 60%.

Sunday-Cloudy with rain showers likely, and maybe a thunderstorm. High 82.

Monday-Mostly sunny, highs near 80.

Tuesday-Mostly sunny, high 84.

Wednesday-Mostly sunny, highs in the mid 80’s.

As you can see, I’m going back to the five-day forecast for now, although temperatures will always be a range for that fifth day (Wednesday in this case), and I’ll get more specific as it gets closer.

Speaking of specifics, you see for tonight and tomorrow night my opinions of racing chances at Bristol Motor Speedway. I’m confident we’ll get both races in, and tonight might have a better chance of going off unhitched by rain delays. However, by tomorrow evening, a cold front will be close enough to shoot some rain our way, so I think the chance for delays is better for the night race on Saturday.

Thunderstorms are possible, as always this time of year. But the more we see cloudy conditions, the less chance we’ll see strong storms. That’s definitely good news for race week with so many people outdoors!

Our best chance of rain is definitely Sunday. A cold front will move through here and actually not come back as a warm front. That’s an indicator that  cooler air is coming. So once the front moves through Sunday afternoon/evening, rain chances will end. That leads to beautiful weather Monday and Tuesday, before we have a small chance of rain on Wednesday.

I’ll give the forecast another look sometime tomorrow, and have a special Saturday forecast for the Night Race. Stay tuned!
