June 30, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

June 30, 2016

There’s not much happening weather wise today, other than that the sun is out and it’s quite warm. Not much of that changes for tomorrow, but rain chances do go up going into the holiday weekend. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Independence Day!

Rain is near Boone, North Carolina, right now, and that’s pretty much it for our area. That’s the “east of the Tri-Cities” rain I mentioned here yesterday and on the air today. There are more storms to the south of that, but it doesn’t appear that any of it will drift into Tennessee.

That leads to the outlook, which looks good for being outside for most of us through Friday.

Tonight-Partly cloudy. Low 61.

Friday-Partly to mostly sunny, with a small chance of a pop-up thunderstorm. High 88.

Friday night-Partly cloudy. Low 63.

Saturday-Partly cloudy, a few showers and storms are possible. High 87.

Sunday-Partly cloudy with some scattered showers and thunderstorms. High 88.

Monday-Partly to mostly sunny, a few showers and storms scattered around. High 89.

So, it’s pretty much typical summer stuff around here. A weak cold front will move through Saturday morning, which could spark a few showers and storms as it goes through. It comes back as a warm front and drifts through here Sunday, which will bring up rain chances once again.

As for Independence Day, we’ll likely be in a hot, humid air mass, typical for summer. That means a hot, sunny day, with a few showers and storms in the afternoon. There is evidence to believe that more than a pop-up thunderstorm could happen Monday afternoon. I’ll keep an eye on that in the coming days.

Either way, we’re going to get a lot of sunshine, and it’s going to be quite warm! We could use some rain, though, as this year is about three inches below normal for halfway through 2016, right on pace with what was recorded in 2015. We are starting to drift into drought conditions, so some source of organized rain for a day or two would help us. That doesn’t look like it’ll be here through early next week, at least.

Thanks for checking here for the forecast today. Have a great evening!
