June 20, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

June 20, 2016

It’s been a dry day, but we’ll be back to scattered showers and thunderstorms starting tomorrow, with pretty strong storms possible through Tuesday night. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Friday!

It’s a warm afternoon, with temperatures in the mid 80’s around the Tri-Cities. As usual, it’s cooler in the mountains, closer to 80. The closer to Knoxville you go, the closer to 90 you get this afternoon. We’ll stay at about this point for most of the next few days as a cold front hangs around for a bit. Here’s the outlook:

Tonight-Partly cloudy. Low 62.

Tuesday-Partly cloudy, scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could have damaging winds and some hail. High 85.

Tuesday night-Partly cloudy, with some scattered showers and storms. Low 68.

Wednesday-Partly cloudy, a few showers and storms possible. High 85.

Thursday-Mostly sunny, a few storms possible late. Highs near 90.

Friday-Mostly cloudy, with scattered showers and storms from time to time. High 86.

A cold front coming down from Lake Michigan will get as close as the Virginia/West Virginia border, just north of us early Wednesday. It’ll go stationary for a while before moving back north as a warm front, typical summer stuff. That will bring scattered showers and storms through Wednesday.

As the front moves away, we’ll get a break Thursday, with only a small chance of rain until late in the day. More storms will form Thursday night ahead of a cold front that will get through here on Friday. Look for more scattered showers and storms during that time period.

So it’s typical warm season weather around here, as the official (aka astronomical) start of summer has arrived!
