May 16, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

May 16, 2016

It’s been a mix of clouds and sun on this Monday, that has majored on the clouds in the Bristol area today. We’ll see rain showers starting to move in tonight, with a daily chance of some showers and storms through Wednesday, then again on Friday. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast through Friday!

Temperatures in the mountains have been stuck in the 50’s in a lot of places, with 55 a popular number in the higher elevations of Southwest Virginia. East Tennessee has warmed a bit into the mid 60’s, and might get a chance to hit 70 before the afternoon is over. Rain comes in tonight, ahead of a system that will be here tomorrow. Here’s the outlook:

Tonight-Cloudy, with rain showers developing late. Low 52.

Tuesday-Partly to mostly cloudy, with scattered showers from time to time, and a possible thunderstorm. High 73.

Tuesday night-Scattered showers, with a rumble of thunder possible. Low 57.

Wednesday-Partly cloudy, rain showers in the morning moving out. Highs near 70.

Thursday-Partly cloudy, only a small chance of rain, so mainly dry. High 74.

Friday-Partly cloudy, with showers and storms developing late. High 78.

A stationary front along the Gulf Coast and low pressure in the Rockies will come together quite quickly in the coming days and shoot across the country. By tomorrow, a warm front will go from Oklahoma, through northern Tennessee, down into Southeast Tennessee, then through North Carolina and out into the Atlantic. That will bring us our scattered showers and storms tomorrow through Tuesday night.

Rain tapers off on Wednesday and much of Thursday. Then, a new low pressure in Texas will develop, and pull a warm front toward us late Friday. That could bring some showers and storms in here for the late afternoon, but the best chances of rain will be Friday night and as the warm and cold fronts get through here on Saturday.

I’m off in a few minutes to go call Sullivan South’s baseball game at Greeneville in the Region 1 semifinal! I’ll be on the air on Top Gun Radio starting at 5:55, with first pitch right at 6pm. Listen in on the Tune in app, or at 870 Am or 100.7 FM if you’re in the Tri-Cities. That FM signal becomes important if we are still on at sunset when the AM signal drops off!

Thanks for checking here for the forecast, have a great evening!
