May 1, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

May 1, 2016

It was certainly a warm May day, after some rain this morning to start things off. We’re going to cool down in the coming days, with rain off and on through early Friday. Welcome to this week’s Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast!

A stationary front is located over parts of our area now, which is causing some clouds, but the bulk of any showers and storms is happening north of us. A few of those will end up mainly in southwest Virginia tonight, before a week of off-and-on storms begins. Here’s the quite repetitive forecast through Friday:

Tonight-Partly cloudy, some scattered storms, best chances of rain in Southwest Virginia. Lows near 60.

Monday-Partly cloudy with scattered showers and possible thunderstorms. High 75.

Monday night-Scattered showers and storms likely. Low 58.

Tuesday-Partly cloudy, with (say it with me) scattered showers and thunderstorms. High 72.

Wednesday-Partly cloudy and mostly dry, a stray rain shower or storm is possible late. High 68.

Thursday-Cloudy and chilly, light rain showers. Highs near 60.

Friday-Partly sunny, a small chance of rain, perhaps early in the day. High 64.

A cold front will enter West Tennessee tonight, and trudge across the state slowly during the day tomorrow. That will cause showers and thunderstorms to fire up. That front will stall and eventually wash out ahead of a new cold front that arrives here Wednesday night.

What’s left of front number one will provide us with a chance of rain Tuesday and Wednesday, then the second cold front will bring rain Wednesday night. After that, cooler air will arrive and plunge us back into late March for a while with cooler temperatures.

Clouds start to get out of here Friday, ahead of high pressure that should be arriving this weekend. After that, who knows. One computer model says the high pressure keeps rain out, another one sends showers and thunderstorms in here on Sunday. So it’s clearly WAY too early to plan next weekend just yet.

I’ll keep an eye on it as always, and a new forecast is coming tomorrow afternoon. I should have my first look at the weekend on Tuesday.

Thanks for checking here for the forecast, have a great week!
