April 28, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

April 28, 2016

Clouds, sun and rain in the same day. That’s a hallmark of Spring weather, not only around here but pretty much everywhere as seasons change. Today was that way, and we should see a full dry day tomorrow before we run into more days with scattered showers and storms this weekend. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog forecast for tonight through Monday!

First off, there is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch up until 11 PM for Tazewell, Smyth, and Buchanan Counties in Southwest Virginia as well as Ashe County, North Carolina. This also includes most of West Virginia, and big chunks of North Carolina and Virginia to our east. So look out mainly in Southwest Virginia for scattered storms tonight that could cause damaging winds and hail.

Temperatures today have been in the mid to upper 70’s for most. We’ll see highs around 80 each of the next couple days, before a second cold front brings cooler weather to start May. Here’s the outlook:

Tonight-Partly cloudy, a few showers and storms this evening, mainly in Southwest Virginia. Low 54.

Friday-Partly to mostly sunny. Highs near 80.

Friday night-Partly to mostly cloudy. Low 53.

Saturday-Partly cloudy in the morning, with scattered showers and storms in the afternoon. Highs near 80.

Sunday-Cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. High 76.

Monday-A few morning showers, becoming partly cloudy later on. High 68.

A cold front will move through by morning, bringing the rain and thunderstorm chances to a brief end for tomorrow. After that, a system in the Southwest will bring us increasing clouds on Saturday, with showers and storms likely Saturday night through most of Sunday.

As it always seems to be this time of year, there will be breaks in the storms, so the weekend won’t be a total washout. If you are out doing yard work or running or such things, keep an eye to the sky for storms on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

That cold front moves through Monday morning, providing us with a few stray rain showers, then clearing skies into the afternoon.

So it’ll be unsettled at times this weekend, but not all that bad. As always, if any of the storms become severe, I’ll let you know here. You can connect with me on Twitter @wxmc!
