April 18, 2016 #TriCitiesWx Forecast

April 18, 2016

It’s been another long and crazy day in and around the weather office, but one thing is for sure. The weather has been beautiful! That continues tomorrow, then changes start in a couple days. Welcome to the Tri-Cities Weather Blog for tonight through Friday!

Temperatures this afternoon were in the mid 70’s in and around Boone and the surrounding mountains today, with most in Southwest Virginia near 80, and the majority of northeast Tennessee in the low 80’s. We’ll get one more day of that before we spend the rest of the week with highs in the 70’s…except Friday might be cooler. Here are the details:

Tonight-Partly cloudy. low 47.

Tuesday-Partly to mostly sunny. High 82.

Tuesday night-Partly cloudy. Lows near 50.

Wednesday-Partly cloudy, a couple rain showers and maybe a thunderstorm are possible. High 75.

Thursday-Partly cloudy with a few rain showers and thunderstorms. High 73.

Friday-Rain and storms likely, especially before noon. High 68.

A cold front off to our west and another one to our north will come through in the coming days. The first one will be up north, stretched from Minnesota through Canada and into Vermont and New Hampshire. That will fall through our area late tomorrow, or perhaps Wednesday morning. There’s very little moisture, so that will move through without much more than a wind shift.

However, the cold front to our west will start finally breaking through the high pressure fortress that’s brought us such nice weather the past four or five days. High clouds should come in as early as tomorrow afternoon, then rain chances begin on Wednesday.

I will say this, we could get out of Wednesday rain free, but the chance is there for a couple showers. There’s a little bit better chance of rain on Thursday, but the main action will be Thursday night and into Friday as the cold front gets near us. That’s when we’ll have a good supply of rain and probably thunderstorms.

We’ll top out in the low 80’s tomorrow, with temperatures in the low to mid 70’s Wednesday and Thursday thanks to a few more clouds and that first front. As the second front moves through by Friday, we’ll see overcast conditions more frequently, with better chances of rain keeping our temperatures below 70 to finish the week.

Thanks for checking here for the forecast, have a great Tuesday!
